Gwangju Nam-gu Selected for Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Public Service Linkage Enhancement Contest'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, was the only autonomous district in the Gwangju area selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s 2022 Public Service Linkage Enhancement contest, and will promote public service projects linked to residents' daily lives.
Introducing Ullyeok, a traditional Korean cooperative labor custom, the district plans to present detailed projects aimed at mutual aid among village communities to satisfy residents' needs and solve local social issues, drawing significant attention.
On the 21st, Nam-gu announced, “Following the selection in the government’s contest, we plan to invest 100 million KRW this year to provide integrated services through the establishment of a village-centered public service platform,” adding, “We will promote the ‘Happy Nam-gu Ullyeok Story’ detailed project linking residents' daily lives with public services.”
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducted a nationwide contest targeting local governments and selected 19 local governments nationwide, including Nam-gu, as project target areas.
Accordingly, Nam-gu will actively promote the ‘Happy Nam-gu Ullyeok Story,’ consisting of nine detailed projects, in cooperation with local community security councils and welfare centers within the district this year.
First, the newly introduced “Neat House Organizing Service” is a project aimed at improving the living environment of vulnerable households.
Professional organizers will visit single-parent families with young children, families with disabled members, and elderly households to provide organizing and storage education, and conduct regular monitoring to maintain the organized environment, imparting know-how to add happiness to the home, the living space of family members.
“Baegun Square Masil Danyeoogi” (Baegun Square Visit) is a project aimed at providing a warm meal to marginalized groups facing difficulties in using group meal facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on restaurant access for unvaccinated individuals.
Coupons will likely be provided soon to allow meals of their choice at the soon-to-open Baegun Square Street Food Zone.
Additionally, “Welcome to Nam-gu” is a project supporting vulnerable groups moving into the district. The local community security council and welfare officers will conduct thorough monitoring from the moving-in registration stage to provide necessary integrated welfare services to the households and present a set of toilet paper as a welcoming gift for residing in Nam-gu.
