43 Billion Won Invested in 26 Locations Across 21 Cities and Counties in the Province
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it will "carry out the '2022 Frequent Traffic Accident Sites Improvement Project' targeting 21 cities and counties within the province this year."
The province, together with the Korea Road Traffic Authority, analyzed traffic accident data from the past three years to select project sites this year, focusing on locations that urgently need improvement and where the improvement effect is expected to be significant.
The project sites include a total of 26 locations in 21 cities and counties, such as Ingye Intersection in Suwon, Gyomun Intersection in Guri, Eoryong 1st Intersection in Pocheon, and City Hall Intersection in Gwangmyeong.
These sites correspond to locations deemed urgent for improvement by the National Police Agency and local governments, places where traffic accidents frequently occur repeatedly, and points where road improvements are expected to significantly reduce traffic accidents and ensure the safety of residents.
The province will invest a total budget of 4.392 billion KRW (2.196 billion KRW from the provincial government and 2.196 billion KRW from city and county governments) in these sites, working with the respective local governments to adjust traffic islands within intersections, maintain crosswalks, and reinforce traffic safety signs and facilities.
In fact, an analysis of the effect of the frequent traffic accident sites improvement project in the province over the past three years (2017?2019) showed that compared to before the project implementation, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 31.8%, and casualties decreased by 33.6%.
