Seoul City to Maintain Electric and Gas Safety Facilities This Year... Inspection of 24,000 Households
Visiting Inspections for Vulnerable Elderly Living Alone, Disabled Persons, and Residents of Jjokbangchon
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is promoting safety inspections and maintenance projects for aging living facilities of low-income vulnerable households such as basic livelihood security recipients, people with disabilities, and elderly living alone.
On the 21st, Seoul announced that it plans to invest 1.512 billion KRW this year to visit and inspect/maintain approximately 24,000 households by the end of November. Safety inspections will be conducted focusing on electricity, fire safety, gas, and boiler sectors, targeting facilities with a high risk of disaster occurrence. If repairs are needed or aging parts are found, immediate repair or replacement will be carried out.
The inspection and maintenance areas include the electrical sector (outlets, circuit breakers, indoor wiring), gas sector (gas timers, gas pipes, valves, etc.), fire safety sector (fire detectors, alarms, spray-type fire extinguishers, rescue equipment, etc.), and boiler sector (boiler flue and valve maintenance).
The 'Safety Welfare Consulting Team,' composed of experts from the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, social workers from the ‘Chatdong’ community service, and public officials, will conduct on-site verification inspections to ensure thorough project implementation. Considering the COVID-19 situation, inspections and maintenance will be conducted with adherence to preventive measures and with the minimum necessary personnel.
In particular, each autonomous district will prioritize selecting local small businesses as project implementers to revitalize the local economy, which has been depressed due to COVID-19, and to establish a continuous A/S system. Those wishing to apply can inquire and apply at their local community service center, where a visit survey will be conducted. The district office selection committee will then determine eligibility and select households for support.
