The U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour is considering holding team competitions starting next year. On the 18th (Korean time), Golf Digest and Golf Channel cited anonymous sources from different parties, reporting that "the PGA Tour Players Council has proposed holding three team competitions," and "the PGA Tour executive committee is discussing this positively." It is likely that one event will be held each in the U.S., Asia, and Europe.
The event is expected to be part of the ‘Fall Series,’ starting in September and ending in November. Ten teams, each consisting of four players, will participate in the tournament. The team composition is determined by the team leader. Players must be ranked within the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings this season to be selected. The ten team leaders will be top players according to the PGA Tour Player Influence Program (PIP). Thus, 40 top-tier players will compete in a team event. For example, a match between ‘Team Tiger Woods’ and ‘Team Jon Rahm’ could be possible.

Currently, the Zurich Classic on the PGA Tour is held as a ‘two-player team’ event, but it is somewhat insufficient as a team competition. The plan to establish a new team competition is part of the PGA Tour’s various efforts to counter the so-called Super Golf League (SGL). The SGL, led by Saudi Arabia, is a new professional golf tour scheduled to launch this June. The SGL also plans to have top players form teams to compete in team events and share the revenue.
