Election of New Gwangbokhoe President Scheduled for This May
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] It appears that a new president of the Kwangbok Association will be elected in May. Although the current executive team's term, including the president, lasts until May next year, there are concerns that operating the position of former president Kim Won-woong, who resigned amid allegations of embezzlement of profits, under an acting president system for over a year is inappropriate.
On the 18th, the Kwangbok Association held an emergency extraordinary general meeting at the Kwangbok Hall auditorium in Yeouido, Seoul, deciding to elect a new president during the regular general meeting in May.
The Kwangbok Association plans to operate under an emergency countermeasure committee (hereafter, ECC) led by delegate Jeon Young-bok, who headed the Anti-Corruption Committee, a group demanding a thorough investigation into former president Kim's corruption.
The extraordinary general meeting, held two days after former president Kim's resignation, was tense from the start, with many delegates protesting the current executive's way of conducting the meeting.
Huh Hyun, the vice president appointed as acting president by the Kwangbok Association board the previous day, knelt before the meeting, saying, "Regardless of the reasons, all responsibility for this incident lies with us. We sincerely apologize," but some attendees shouted, "Stop the show."
Vice President Huh also stated, "We will create a Kwangbok Association free of corruption," adding, "We intend to restore the Kwangbok Association promptly and devote all efforts to prevent further deterioration and an irreparable situation."

However, many delegates repeatedly called for the executive team to resign together, citing their significant responsibility during procedural speeches, and an 'Recommendation for the Resignation of All Executives' was immediately proposed and passed on-site. Among the 51 attendees, 47 voted in favor and 4 against the recommendation.
