Targeting Middle-Aged 4050 Generation Following Youth
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, has promised to provide convenience facilities that middle-aged and older adults can use even after retirement. Following several youth-related pledges announced earlier, this move appears to target the middle-aged 40s and 50s generation.
On the 18th, Yoon announced through his ‘Yoon Seok-yeol’ YouTube channel the 29th ‘59-second Shorts’ pledge, stating he would "open a middle-aged youth space." This means creating spaces where middle-aged individuals who retire earlier than the official retirement age, such as through early retirement, can plan their second life by reading, studying, enjoying cultural activities, and leisure. To this end, Yoon explained that he would expand existing cultural spaces or reorganize idle public facilities.
He stated, "The average retirement age of domestic workers is 49, which is far below the official retirement age," and added, "Recently, the 40s and 50s middle-aged generation has been included as beneficiaries of the National Employment Support System, but many still face difficulties in reemployment," explaining the purpose of the pledge. Additionally, Won Hee-ryong, head of the policy headquarters, emphasized the need for such spaces in the video, saying, "Just as there are spaces for youth, spaces for middle-aged people are also necessary," and "It is possible to prepare for life after retirement."

Meanwhile, with this pledge, Yoon concludes the ‘59-second Shorts’ series of pledges. According to the People Power Party’s election headquarters, the 59-second Shorts series ended after surpassing a cumulative 14.5 million views on the YouTube channel. Previously, Yoon announced pledges through the 59-second Shorts series such as ▲freezing electric vehicle charging fees ▲expanding subway season ticket use to buses ▲introducing more low-floor buses and buses equipped with lifts.
