Submission of Registration Application and School Regulations Required
Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to Announce First Registration in Early March
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The registration process for alternative education institutions in Seoul that are not currently registered with the education office will be simplified.
On the 18th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on its website the necessary matters for the registration and operation of alternative education institutions. This includes contents that the Superintendent of Education is required to determine or announce according to the Alternative Education Institutions Act and its Enforcement Decree.
The announcement includes ▲ procedures and methods for registration or change of registration of alternative education institutions and management of student rosters ▲ cancellation of registration and closure reports of alternative education institutions ▲ matters related to the composition and operation of the Alternative Education Institution Registration and Operation Committee, as stipulated by the Superintendent of Education in the 'Alternative Education Institutions Act.'
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to post the first registration announcement on its website in early March. Two explanatory sessions regarding registration will be held in March and April, followed by registration submissions in May, with guidance provided to registered institutions by July.
From now on, institutions wishing to register as alternative education institutions can submit the registration application form and documents such as school regulations as guided in the announcement.
The Superintendent of Education will review the submitted documents, conduct on-site inspections, and approve the registration within one month (with a possible one-month extension) after deliberation by the Alternative Education Institution Registration and Operation Committee.
Institutions registered as alternative education institutions will have legal status and may use the title "Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Alternative Education Institution."
Students enrolled in registered alternative education institutions will be eligible for deferment of compulsory education enrollment.
