Yoon Seok-yeol and Yoo Seung-min 'One Team' Helper is the Democratic Party? ... Yoo Seung-min Plans to Announce "I Will Help Yoon"
Yoo Seung-min "I will clarify my intentions as there seem to be misunderstandings and strange remarks from the Democratic Party"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The unexpected meeting between Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who were rivals during the party's primary election, was largely influenced by the role of the Democratic Party (?). Former lawmaker Yoo plans to meet Yoon and express his intention to "help with the election campaign."
On the 16th, Yoo said in a phone call, "I promised to serve the country selflessly for regime change during my concession speech on November 5 last year, and I still hold that same commitment," adding, "Now that the election is underway and the Democratic Party is making strange remarks and there seem to be misunderstandings, I thought it would be better to clarify my intentions once again by meeting Candidate Yoon."
During the primary, Yoo had stated, "I will accept the primary results cleanly" and "I will serve selflessly for the presidential victory." Other primary participants, including the most recent joiner, lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo, supported Candidate Yoon through endorsements and joining his campaign, but Yoo did not participate in these moves. Because of this, Yoo's joining was considered the final challenge for the People Power Party's 'One Team' unity.
Yoo said, "I don't know how much help my meeting will be, but since Candidate Yoon suggested meeting, I agreed."
The "strange remarks from the Democratic Party" mentioned by Yoo as the background for the meeting with Candidate Yoon seem to refer to the recent love calls from the Democratic Party toward Yoo. The meeting schedule was made public on the night of the 15th, but earlier that day, Representative Jung Sung-ho, head of the Democratic Party's campaign special advisory group, appeared on a radio show and mentioned Yoo. While explaining Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's intention for a unified cabinet, Jung said, "If capable people like former lawmaker Yoo agree to overcome the crisis and are given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, they can certainly be appointed." However, when asked if he had contacted Yoo, Jung replied, "I have not. Meeting could cause misunderstandings," but added, "(Yoo) is competent, dignified, and a politician I like."
Park Kwang-on, head of the Democratic Party's public relations team, also appeared on a radio show and said, "(We) can definitely work together with former lawmaker Yoo," adding, "When Yoo was the floor leader, he proposed moving toward a 'moderate burden, moderate welfare' country, which still resonates strongly with the public. Such grand aspirations are undoubtedly the direction our country should take in the 21st century," continuing the love call.
