LG's World's First Ultra-Large AI Artist 'Tilda'... Unveiled at New York Fashion Week
Showcasing Collaborative Works with Human Designers at New York Fashion Week
Tilda Plans Eco-Friendly Brand Launch and Metaverse Engagement
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyeyoung] # At the 2022 FW New York Fashion Week, the AI artist 'Tilda' appeared on an LED screen installed on the stage. After having a conversation with designer Park Yoonhee about the environment, Tilda said, "I want to draw flowers. Flowers blooming on Venus." Then, images created directly by Tilda filled the screen, and the show began.
On the 14th (local time), LG announced on the 15th that it unveiled the world's first ultra-large AI-based artist 'Tilda' at New York Fashion Week in the United States.
Tilda is the first AI human realized through LG AI Research Institute's ultra-large AI EXAONE. Unlike existing virtual humans, Tilda learns independently, thinks and judges, creates works, and communicates naturally with humans.
LG AI Research Institute announced plans to develop a 'creative ultra-large AI' capable of collaborating with designers in May last year, and realized this at this year's New York Fashion Week.
Tilda showcased outfits inspired by 'flowers blooming on Venus' together with designer Park Yoonhee at the fashion show.
When asked questions like "What do you want to draw?" and "What would flowers look like if they bloomed on Venus?", Tilda independently thought and created new images, and designer Park added details to produce the outfits. The 200-plus outfits composing this FW collection were made based on over 3,000 images and patterns created by Tilda.
Designer Park said, "The most important thing to stand on a big stage like New York Fashion Week is imagination," adding, "I wanted to create clothes by empathizing with the creativity unique to Tilda and the emotions unique to humans. I was confident it would create tremendous synergy, and my intuition was right."
This collaboration is significant as it expands the creative scope of ultra-large AI, which has mainly created text-based content such as novels, essays, and columns based on language models, into the visual field, marking the first case of its kind.
Tilda is a multimodal AI capable of understanding the context of input language and creating images that have never existed before. Technologically, it differs from existing AIs that learn artistic works or design images to produce similar art styles or brand design content. Tilda is based on the ultra-large AI EXAONE, which has learned over 600 billion corpora?the world's largest scale?and more than 250 million high-resolution images combined with text.
The collaboration collection between Tilda and designer Park was themed around 'Venus' and conveyed a message about the climate change crisis. LG explained that it delivers the message that if Earth's environmental destruction continues, Earth could become uninhabitable like Venus, while combining flowers to symbolize hope.
Artist Tilda Plans to Communicate with Generation Z in the Metaverse
After completing the fashion week schedule, Tilda plans to launch an independent eco-friendly fashion brand to continuously convey environmental messages through fashion.
Tilda will serve as a medium for customers to meet LG's ultra-large AI in the metaverse. In particular, Tilda will act as an 'AI artist' communicating with Generation Z (born from the late 1990s to the late 2010s), who have a distinct awareness and concern for environmental issues.
An official from LG AI Research Institute said, "Within this year, you will be able to see Tilda's unique fashion products and art pieces not only online but also offline," adding, "We are also preparing a metaverse where Generation Z can directly communicate and collaborate on various creative works."
Starting with Tilda, LG AI Research Institute plans to create expert AI humans that assist and collaborate with humans in various fields such as manufacturing, research, services, education, and finance.
