Gokseong-gun Accepts Applications for Early Retirement Support of Old Diesel Vehicles

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-seon] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will accept early retirement support applications for old diesel vehicles through the town and township offices from the 14th to March 4th.

Gokseong-gun will invest about 420 million KRW this year to support the early retirement of 266 old diesel vehicles.

The eligible vehicles include diesel vehicles with emission grade 5 or road-use type 3 construction machinery (dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, concrete pump trucks) manufactured before 2005 under the emission standards.

Additionally, the vehicle must have been registered in Gokseong-gun for more than six months before the announcement date (February 10, 2022), and the final ownership period must be at least six months. Emission grades can be checked on the Ministry of Environment’s vehicle emission grade system website.

The support amount can be up to 3 million KRW for vehicles with a gross weight under 3.5 tons.

However, the basic support rate may vary depending on the vehicle type (passenger car or others). For vehicles over 3.5 tons, the upper limit is divided into four levels, ranging from 4.4 million KRW for engines up to 3,500cc to 30 million KRW for engines exceeding 7,500cc. Type 3 construction machinery can receive up to 40 million KRW.

Applicants wishing to apply can visit the town or township office and submit the early retirement subsidy eligibility confirmation application form.

Gokseong-gun plans to review the applications for about one month according to the selection criteria and notify the final support recipients.

Confirmed vehicles can receive the subsidy after scrapping and deregistration.

A Gokseong-gun official stated, “If an old vehicle is scrapped early and a new LPG 1-ton cargo truck is purchased, a fixed amount of 2 million KRW per vehicle will be supported (total project volume of 24 vehicles). Additionally, a certain percentage of additional support will be provided when purchasing gasoline, gas vehicles, or electric and hydrogen vehicles.”
