View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Singer An Chi-hwan has sparked controversy by releasing a new song that appears to disparage Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party. The People Power Party called it "a song based on misogyny" and urged An Chi-hwan to apologize.
His agency, A&L Entertainment, announced that An Chi-hwan released a new digital single titled "A Woman Who Resembles Michael Jackson" on the 11th. The agency described the song as "a blues-style folk rock track containing humor and critical sentiment."
The lyrics repeatedly include lines such as "Why are you like that / What are you dreaming of / You should wish for what you can wish for / Are you out of your mind," and "A woman who resembles Michael Jackson / A woman who changed her face multiple times / A woman who changed her name multiple times." An Chi-hwan wrote and composed the song himself.
Some have claimed that the song targets Kim Geon-hee, the wife of candidate Yoon. This is because the frequently repeated word "geoni" in the lyrics sounds similar to Kim's name "Geon-hee." Additionally, some pointed out that the image used on the album jacket resembles Kim's appearance during her public apology press conference.
Among these, the phrase "a woman who changed her face multiple times" has been criticized as an appearance-based insult aimed at Kim's alleged plastic surgery.
Previously, former Democratic Party lawmaker Son Hye-won sparked controversy by commenting on Kim's appearance, saying, "I already knew her face had changed, but upon closer look, her pupils have become very large," among other remarks. At the time, Son posted side-by-side photos of Kim from the past and present on her Facebook page.

Park Min-jung, youth spokesperson for the party's women's division, said, "An Chi-hwan has been known for satirizing society and composing folk songs for the people, and was once praised for it. However, this song 'A Woman Who Resembles Michael Jackson' was simply targeting external appearances without any critical content, leaving only discomfort," she pointed out.
She added, "Content filled with appearance-based insults and misogyny is no longer satire or humor but low-quality mockery."

Spokesperson Park stated, "His actions to personally demean women and turn them into objects of ridicule are clearly misogynistic and demonstrate his backward, low-level awareness. It is shocking and lamentable that songs based on misogyny can still be released to the public. We urge An Chi-hwan to apologize not only to Kim Geon-hee but also to everyone who felt discomfort because of this song."
