Hwang Daeheon (Korea National Sport University) advanced to the men's 500m short track semifinals at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Starting from the outermost lane, Hwang Daeheon was in last place until the early part of the final lap. However, he skillfully attacked the inside lane at the second corner, overtaking John-Henry Krueger (Hungary, 40.844 seconds) and Stijn Desmet (Belgium, 40.718 seconds) at once. He then accelerated and lunged forward, surpassing Abzal Azhgaliyev (Kazakhstan, 40.643 seconds) just before the finish line. In the semifinals heat 2, Hwang will compete against Liu Shaoang (Hungary), Steven Dubois (Canada), Wu Dajing (China), and Azhgaliyev.
