Hong Kyung-hee, spokesperson for the People’s Party Central Election Committee, stated in a commentary on the same day, "We urge candidate Yoon to respond to the unification proposal," adding, "It is now Yoon’s turn to answer directly."
Spokesperson Hong said, "We call on the People Power Party to seriously consider and magnanimously accept candidate Ahn’s proposal, rather than engaging in election engineering calculations based on individual candidates’ advantages or disadvantages," and added, "The unification method advocated by the People Power Party goes against public opinion and is a misjudgment that underestimates candidate Ahn’s competitiveness."

This was a response to a statement by Lee Yang-soo, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party’s election headquarters. Lee said on the same day, "The method proposed by candidate Ahn, referred to as the 'People’s Primary,' carries the risk of going against the public demand for regime change," and explained, "Given the large gap in approval ratings between candidates Yoon and Ahn, there is a high risk that the Democratic Party, which does not want regime change, and candidate Lee Jae-myung’s manipulations could exploit this as a strategy to divide the opposition."
