Yoon-Lee Gap, 2.5%P... Neck and Neck Within Margin of Error After One Week
Winning Probability: Yoon 48.8% > Lee 42.6%... 6.2%P Outside Margin of Error
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll revealed that the gap in approval ratings between Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, and Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, has once again narrowed to within the margin of error after one week.
On the 13th, Realmeter, commissioned by OhmyNews, conducted a survey from the 6th to the 11th of February targeting 3,040 voters aged 18 and over nationwide to measure the support for the next presidential candidates in the second week of February. The results showed that Yoon's support dropped by 1.8 percentage points from the previous week (first week of February) to 41.6%, while Lee's support rose by 1.0 percentage point to 39.1%.
The gap between the two candidates decreased from 5.3 percentage points last week to 2.5 percentage points, a reduction of 2.8 percentage points, showing a close race again within the margin of error (±1.8 percentage points).
Following them, Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, rose by 0.2 percentage points to 7.7%, and Sim Sang-jung, the presidential candidate of the Justice Party, increased by 0.3 percentage points to 2.8%. Other candidates accounted for 1.7%, no preference was 5.2%, and don’t know/no response was 1.9%.
By age group, Yoon led among those in their 20s (41.2%), 30s (38.7%), 60s (50.7%), and 70 and older (60.5%), while Lee had higher support among those in their 40s (56.7%) and 50s (47.9%).
By region, Yoon was ahead in Seoul (47.3%), Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (44.4%), Gangwon (43.5%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (46.5%), and Daegu·Gyeongbuk (56.7%). Conversely, Lee led in Incheon·Gyeonggi (42.7%), Gwangju·Jeolla (61.8%), and Jeju (46.0%).
In the survey on the likelihood of winning the next presidential election, Yoon’s rating fell by 0.2 percentage points from last week to 48.8%, while Lee’s rose by 1.8 percentage points to 42.6%, making the gap between the two candidates 6.2 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
Following them, Ahn’s rating dropped by 1.9 percentage points to 2.3%, and Sim’s rose by 0.2 percentage points to 0.7%. Other candidates accounted for 0.8%, and no preference/don’t know was 4.8%.
