View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced on the 12th that he will establish the Saemangeum Special Committee directly under the president and designate it as an international investment promotion organization to develop Saemangeum into a "Mega City."
On the same day, Yoon visited the Honam region aboard the "Passion Train" promoting his policy pledges and announced, "We will make Jeonbuk, soaring with advanced industries centered on Saemangeum, an international free city."
First, he promised to develop Saemangeum into a "Mega City" and make it a new hub in Northeast Asia. The Saemangeum Special Committee will be established and operated directly under the president, and a special Saemangeum account will be created for development purposes.
He also plans to designate the Saemangeum area as an "International Investment Promotion Organization" to transform it into an international free city with world-class competitiveness. To this end, he aims to attract leading global companies both domestic and foreign through tax support, deregulation, and rent subsidies, linking them with Jeonbuk's financial cluster. Additionally, the Saemangeum International Airport is scheduled to begin construction early.
Yoon pledged to designate Jeonbuk as a financial hub and develop it into a financial city differentiated from Seoul and Busan by focusing on asset management based on pension funds.
Furthermore, alongside the Saemangeum green hydrogen production cluster, he plans to establish a hydrogen-specialized national industrial complex in Wanju, a hydrogen pilot city where the domestic hydrogen commercial vehicle industry and hydrogen full-cycle value chain are built. He also intends to build an autonomous driving test and evaluation complex in the Jeonbuk automobile cluster adjacent to Saemangeum, fostering Jeonbuk as a future-oriented commercial vehicle production base.
