[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Lee Don-seung, Deputy Director of the Organization Headquarters of the Lee Jae-myung Campaign Committee of the Democratic Party, who is preparing to run for the governor of Wanju County, Jeonbuk in the upcoming local elections, visited Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 11th to appeal for support for candidate Lee Jae-myung.
Deputy Director Lee requested overwhelming support for candidate Lee Jae-myung from merchants and citizens at Mudeung Market located in Nam-gu, Gwangju, and at Yangnim-dong Craft Specialty Street, which is popular among the 2030 generation.
Deputy Director Lee said, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung is the best candidate who can bring about a great transformation in the Republic of Korea," and emphasized, "Since we are working hard in Jeonbuk with the goal of ‘8090 (80% voter turnout, 90% approval rating), please actively support candidate Lee Jae-myung in the traditional support areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam as well."
He also stated, "Everyone, including myself, is reflecting on the fact that the support rate for opposition candidates in Honam is around 20% due to disappointment with the current government," and argued, "However, we must not entrust the future of the Republic of Korea to candidates who are unqualified."
Deputy Director Lee then visited the Nam-gu Council in Gwangju and held a meeting with Chairman Park Hee-yul. At this meeting, Deputy Director Lee and Chairman Park exchanged opinions on public opinion in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions and strategies for winning the presidential election.
Afterwards, Deputy Director Lee held a discussion with Kim Byung-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, and visited the Education Support Division to benchmark policies related to Nam-gu’s regional specialized development zone, the ‘Culture and Education Special Zone.’
Nam-gu, Gwangju was designated as a Culture and Education Special Zone in 2011 and has promoted specialized projects such as supporting after-school classes and programs related to the 4th industrial revolution, constructing the Bongseon Youth Culture House, and operating youth creative education programs. It was selected as an excellent special zone in 2013, 2014, and 2017.
Deputy Director Lee promised, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung also pledged to introduce the ‘Happy Learning Day’ system, where schools and communities learn together, through his eight major education pledges," and added, "Since the region itself becomes a learning base, I will ensure that education-related special zones suitable for Wanju are designated through Nam-gu’s Culture and Education Special Zone in connection with candidate Lee Jae-myung’s pledges."
