Gwangju Seo-gu, Rated 'Excellent' in Local Government Innovation Evaluation by Ministry of the Interior and Safety

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that it received an excellent rating for five consecutive years in the ‘2021 Local Government Innovation Evaluation’ conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The Local Government Innovation Evaluation assesses innovation performance for each indicator through expert-centered innovation evaluation teams and citizen evaluation teams across 243 local governments nationwide (17 metropolitan and 226 basic local governments) in five areas and 14 indicators: autonomous innovation, inclusive administration, participation and cooperation, trusted government, and innovation diffusion and public perception.

The evaluation results are classified into three grades: excellent, average, and insufficient, based on the comprehensive innovation performance of each indicator. Financial incentives such as special grants and awards are provided to local governments with excellent ratings.

In this evaluation, Seo-gu was selected as an excellent institution for five consecutive years and received higher scores than other local governments in various areas, including organizational culture innovation, innovation leadership of the head of the institution, and collaboration promotion performance, which are core indicators of government innovation related to presenting the vision and direction of government innovation.

A Seo-gu official said, “Being selected as an excellent institution in the innovation evaluation for five consecutive years is a very valuable achievement that clearly demonstrates the capabilities of Seo-gu public officials,” and added, “We will not stop at this evaluation result but will continue to focus more on discovering resident-centered innovation policies from the perspective of residents.”

He continued, “We will also continuously strive to lead innovation policies in Seo-gu by efficiently resolving various issues through public-private cooperation and communication.”
