Jinju City Allocates Over 450 Plots for 'Citizen Gardens' Utilizing Idle Spaces
Jinju Citizens, Applications Open Until the 28th for Innovation City Public Institution Employees
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province is accepting applications for the rental of over 450 plots of "Citizen Gardens," created by utilizing idle space in front of the Agricultural Technology Center in Munsan-eup, until the 28th of this month.
The city announced on the 9th that it is renting out the "Citizen Gardens" to provide citizens with productive leisure activities and healing and enjoyment through agricultural experiences, to support the stable settlement of employees and families of public institutions in the Innovation City, and to help form communities with citizens.
Applicants must be Jinju citizens or employees of public institutions in the Innovation City. Each plot is 8㎡, and the usage fee is 16,000 KRW per plot.
The garden usage period is from mid-April, after land preparation and soil improvement are completed, until the end of December.
Perennial crops and winter crops (such as garlic and onions) cannot be cultivated, and to preserve the environment and produce safe agricultural products, plastic mulch and pesticide spraying are prohibited.
Jinju City plans to assign urban agriculture managers to assist beginners who lack knowledge or experience with gardening by providing crop cultivation technical guidance and education starting in April to support garden operations.
