Yeosu Coast Guard, Fatal Accident Occurs as Worker Falls into Sea During Kim Aquaculture Farm Operations
Two Crew Members Rescued, One Crew Member Dead
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Maritime Police Station announced on the 9th that "two crew members who fell into the sea while working at a seaweed farm near Sisan-do, Goheung-gun, were rescued by a fellow crew member, but unfortunately, one of them died."
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, around 2 a.m. on the 9th, two crew members fell into the sea due to swell waves and the tension of the seaweed racks while working on seaweed racks aboard the 6-ton aquaculture management vessel A (registered in Goheung, with 3 crew members) near Sisan-do, Goheung-gun. The captain Kang (47 years old) and crew member Jeong (56 years old) fell into the sea.

The rescued captain Kang performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while moving to the fishing port, and a report was made to 119 emergency services by nearby residents.
When Yeosu Maritime Police arrived at the scene, the 119 ambulance team provided emergency treatment to crew member Jeong and urgently transported him to a nearby hospital, but he passed away.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "It was confirmed that the crew members who fell into the sea were not wearing life jackets," and added, "We urge maritime workers to make wearing life jackets a habit to prevent such unfortunate incidents and to always wear life jackets."
