She will meet with Qualcomm and senior executives from overseas telecom companies to discuss the future of the mobile industry in the Industry 4.0 era.
According to the official MWC 2022 website on the 8th, the session in which Minister Lim will participate as an agenda panelist is titled "The Current State of the Industry: What’s Next for the Mobile Sector?" and will be held from 10 a.m. on March 1. The session is categorized under government and public policy.
Other panelists include Alex Rogers, President of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) & Global Affairs, Karim Antonio Resina, Senior Vice President of Millicom, a Latin American telecommunications company, and Andy Penn, CEO of Telstra in Australia.
The organizer, the GSM Association (GSMA), explained, "The mobile industry is evolving. As the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, this session will focus on highlighting the future growth of the mobile industry."
Earlier, Minister Lim expressed her intention to attend MWC 2022 at a New Year press briefing held at the Ministry of Science and ICT building in Sejong City on the 27th of last month.
A Ministry of Science and ICT official stated, "We will adjust our attendance plans while monitoring the COVID-19 situation," adding, "We are considering various options in case the situation worsens."
The three major telecom companies?SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus?are considering participating with minimal personnel centered around their CEOs. They plan to reserve meeting rooms for business-to-business (B2B) discussions while minimizing exhibition booths. Chairman Han Sang-hyuk of the Korea Communications Commission plans to skip this MWC as well, following his absence at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 held in Las Vegas, USA, in January.
