On the afternoon of the 7th, Yoon delivered a special lecture titled 'Yoon Seok-yeol's Economic Vision and the Role of Government' at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Yoon emphasized the urgent need to expand infrastructure for storing and analyzing digital data, as the 4th Industrial Revolution signifies ultra-fast connection and movement of information and data. He plans to thoroughly establish 5G nationwide and prepare for 6G.
Along with memory semiconductors that power digital data infrastructure, he intends to create institutional conditions for significant growth in the system semiconductor industry. The government will also provide support in areas it can, such as power supply. However, since the 4th Industrial Revolution is expected to demand enormous power, he plans to focus on advancing renewable energy technologies as well as strengthening nuclear power plant safety and developing technologies for waste disposal.
He also promised bold R&D investment in technological innovation. Yoon explained, "We must actively pursue challenging foundational and general-purpose technologies that are difficult for companies and markets to develop, so that the private sector can subsequently commercialize and create value from the results." Investments will be strictly project-centered and problem-solving oriented.
To enable creative, problem-solving education, the education system will also be reformed. He believes that the current knowledge-acquisition type education is insufficient to nurture talents who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution. Yoon emphasized, "Education is needed that teaches and learns awareness of problems closely related to our lives, how to discover and utilize information and data necessary to solve problems, and ideas for value creation through this process."
He plans to minimize risks that hinder dynamic innovative growth. In the context of the US-China strategic competition, he aims to strengthen global diplomatic capabilities, effectively respond to supply chain restructuring, and prevent industrial and socio-economic shocks caused by supply disruptions.
