Kia, New Joint Venture to Reignite China Market
'Kia-Yancheng City Investment Expansion Agreement Signed'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Kia announced on the 7th that it signed the 'Kia-Yancheng City Investment Expansion Agreement' at the Yancheng City Government Office in Jiangsu Province, China.
The agreement ceremony, held online, was attended by Kia President Song Hoseong, Chief Financial Officer Joo Woojeong, China Corporation Head Ryu Changseung, Yancheng Mayor Joo Bin, and Yancheng Development Zone Secretary Xia Sijun.
Through this agreement, the Yancheng City government will expand support for Kia's business development and successful resurgence in China and support the export expansion of the Kia Yancheng plant. Kia will increase strategic investments to strengthen its eco-friendly vehicle lineup, expand exports, and launch new models.
Dongfeng Yueda Kia is a joint venture established when Kia entered the Chinese market in 2002, with a three-party structure holding 50% by Kia, 25% by Dongfeng Motor, and 25% by Jiangsu Yueda Group.
Recently, Jiangsu Yueda Group, a state-owned enterprise owned by Yancheng City, completed the acquisition of the 25% stake in Dongfeng Yueda Kia held by Dongfeng Motor, reorganizing the management structure into a two-party system. This simplification of the shareholding structure enables faster and more efficient decision-making.
Going forward, Kia is also considering expanding equity investment to take a leading role in its China business with the support of Yueda Group.
At the Beijing Motor Show in April, Kia plans to announce the new name, new CI, and SI of the joint venture and innovatively improve showrooms and stores applying the new SI to dramatically enhance brand image at customer touchpoints. Kia aims to make this year the first year of rebound for its China business by conducting solid sales and aggressive marketing activities and actively communicating its future business vision to Chinese consumers. Additionally, starting this year, Kia will significantly apply safety and new technology specifications to new models to enhance product competitiveness and reorganize its main sales models into global strategic models such as Carnival and Sportage. At the same time, starting with the EV6 next year, Kia will launch new electric vehicles annually in the Chinese market to establish a full lineup of six dedicated electric vehicles by 2027.
Furthermore, Kia plans to increase advertising and marketing centered on dealer locations to enhance effective brand exposure to customers and conduct customer-oriented events such as on-site test drives and services throughout the year, providing more Chinese consumers with opportunities to experience Kia products and brand.
To secure an innovative organizational culture and competitiveness suitable for the new joint venture, Kia will accelerate localization efforts by actively recruiting local talented and professional personnel.
