Yangcheon-gu Provides 1:1 Customized Companion Counseling for Emotional Development of Vulnerable Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) is promoting the ‘Child Accompaniment Counseling and Treatment Support Project’ to foster the healthy emotional development of low-income vulnerable children in the area.
The ‘Child Accompaniment Counseling and Treatment Support Project’ is a psychological counseling support service that Yangcheon-gu has been operating for 13 years since 2009. In February last year, the district selected the Sinjeong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center’s I-Mom Development Support Center through a public offering for service providers, and through an agreement, provided a total of 838 sessions of services including comprehensive psychological tests, individual therapy, and parent group programs to 20 target children.
This year’s support targets 20 children under the age of 18 from low-income families residing in Yangcheon-gu, including children attending local after-school centers and residential facilities, and those judged to need counseling through linkage with local resources. The district also provides a vehicle accompaniment service for children who find it difficult to be accompanied by guardians during counseling due to work commitments such as dual-income households.
Target children undergo 1:1 comprehensive psychological testing, and customized individual therapy is conducted based on the analysis of the child’s needs and psychology. Programs such as ▲play ▲art ▲language ▲cognition are provided to help children identify the causes of problematic behaviors in a psychologically comfortable state and support stable emotional development.
Additionally, a social skills enhancement group program is conducted to help children develop healthy interpersonal abilities. Furthermore, family programs including in-depth guardian counseling (therapy) and specialized education share the child’s psychological state and communication methods, helping to create a healthy parenting environment at home.
