Lee Jae-myung Finds PK "Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Megacity with 1-Hour Living Zone"
Lee "Gyeongnam is a symbol of industrialization... Will make it a center of the aerospace industry"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced plans to develop the Gyeongsangnam-do region as the center of the aerospace industry and a forward base for space exploration. He specifically promised to foster the wind power industry, hydrogen industry, and future automobile parts industry.
On the afternoon of the 5th, Lee visited the Hyundai Rotem Changwon Plant in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, and presented eight major pledges for the Gyeongnam region.
At the event, Lee stated, "We will complete the Northeast Asia logistics platform centered on Jinhae New Port." With the global industry being reorganized around the logistics market, he intends to transform Jinhae New Port into a Northeast Asia logistics platform connected by land and air. He also presented detailed plans to support the development of Jinhae New Port into a mega port equipped with ultra-large vessels and ultra-fast cargo handling capabilities.
He also proposed pledges related to the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) megacity. The plan is to expand various transportation infrastructures to realize a "Bu-Ul-Gyeong megacity one-hour living zone." To this end, he promised ▲ construction of a semi-high-speed railway between Jinju and Ulsan ▲ introduction of express metropolitan trains ▲ implementation of the Southeast region circular metropolitan railway project connecting Changwon, Gimhae, Yangsan, and Ulsan ▲ promotion of the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan metropolitan railway financial project ▲ establishment of an integrated transfer system at major Bu-Ul-Gyeong hubs.
In particular, he said he would develop Gyeongsangnam-do as a core hub for the aerospace industry. Lee said, "Gyeongsangnam-do accounts for more than 65% of the domestic aerospace industry production value and is a key hub," adding, "We will strengthen the competitiveness of Gyeongsangnam-do's aircraft comprehensive maintenance (MRO) industry and aerospace industry."
He also presented customized development strategies such as building a Gyeongnam-type green industry economic ecosystem, creating an environmental smart ship cluster, and supporting the transition of the future automobile parts industry. Lee explained, "The national land transformation to eliminate regional disparities and imbalances is now a matter of national survival."
