Despite US Objections... "Brazil President to Visit Russia on the 14th"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is set to visit Russia for four days starting from the 14th, according to Russia's TASS news agency citing the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 4th (local time).
Bolsonaro's visit to Russia is notable as it is proceeding despite U.S. opposition. Earlier, he had planned to visit Moscow in early December last year at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, but major foreign media reported that amid the escalating Russia-Ukraine crisis, the U.S. government requested Bolsonaro to cancel his visit to Russia.

However, Bolsonaro reaffirmed his plan to visit Russia the day before. He stated, "Brazil is Brazil and Russia is Russia," adding, "I have good relations with everyone, and if U.S. President Joe Biden invites me, I would gladly visit the United States as well." Nevertheless, he intends to focus on discussing economic cooperation between the two countries during his visit and will not address the Russia-Ukraine issue.
