At the plenary meeting of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee on the same day, in response to the People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Kyung-jun's question, "Was the resignation of the Tax Policy Bureau chief after only nine months in office a dismissal due to responsibility for the tax revenue error?" Hong said, "If it is necessary for me to step down and I am not at the end of my term, I will resign."
He explained, "I am also distressed as if I am shifting the responsibility entirely onto my subordinates," adding, "However, the Tax Policy Bureau chief also had the will to take some responsibility, and I thought that doing so was a duty to the public."
