Mugunghwa Train and Truck Collision in Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk... 2 Dead
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] It is reported that two people, including the driver of a 1-ton truck, died after the truck collided with a Mugunghwa train at a railroad crossing in Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk.
At around 3:34 PM on the 3rd, a 1-ton truck collided with a Mugunghwa train traveling from Donghae, Gangwon-do to Dongdaegu Station at a railroad crossing in Hodang-ri, Cheongtong-myeon, Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk.
As a result of the accident, two people in their 70s, a male driver and a female passenger, died. There were 132 passengers on the train, and no injuries were reported.
After the accident, the train moved about 100 meters before stopping, and there was no derailment.
According to Korail, the warning devices such as the crossing gate were operating normally without any abnormalities at the time of the accident.
Korail stated that the locomotive of the train sustained some damage, so three buses were dispatched to transfer all passengers to Dongdaegu Station.

A police official said, "We plan to investigate the circumstances of the accident, including whether the truck rushed through despite the crossing gate being down."
