Muan-gun Selected as the Most Productive Local Government Nationwide
Employment Growth Rate, Demonstrating Outstanding Administrative Capability in Health and Medical Fields
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do, achieved a great feat by winning first place nationwide in the ‘2021 Local Government Productivity Award’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving the highest honor, the Presidential Citation.
According to the county on the 3rd, last year it won the Korea Productivity Center President’s Citation by ranking third nationwide among county-level local governments in the ‘2020 Local Government Productivity Award,’ and was selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years including this year.
In particular, this year it rose significantly to first place nationwide, proving the excellence of urban competitiveness as the central city of Jeonnam administration.
The ‘Local Government Productivity Award’ is an evaluation of comprehensive administrative capabilities for local governments conducted annually since 2011 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It assesses administrative capabilities through 17 indicators including employment growth rate, regional safety index, and resident participation budget level.
As a result of the evaluation, Muan County received high scores in indicators such as regional economic capacity and health and medical fields, and recorded outstanding performance in employment growth rate compared to the national average.
Considering that the ability to overcome economic recession and respond to quarantine systems are the most urgently required administrative capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the results of this productivity indicator analysis are highly meaningful.
It shows that the county is transforming into a city full of opportunities and vitality, supported by urban growth trends such as the county’s focus on the successful commencement of the aviation-specialized industrial complex, the successful promotion of the Oryong District housing development project, population increase, and expansion of the youth population ratio.
A county official said, “We thank the employees who quietly perform their duties in all areas of administration,” and added, “This award is a very valuable achievement that clearly demonstrates the capabilities of Muan County public officials who continuously pursue high efficiency and development in administration.”
He continued, “We will do our utmost to fully realize Muan County’s outstanding growth potential and momentum to achieve sustainable regional development and innovative growth,” and added, “We hope that the residents, exhausted physically and mentally by COVID-19, will find comfort by seeing Muan’s future and hope through this evaluation result.”
Meanwhile, last August, Muan County ranked 9th overall among 82 county groups in the ‘National Local Government Evaluation’ and won the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award in the job creation category at the 17th Korea Local Autonomy Management Competition.
In particular, it also achieved 4th place nationwide among county-level local governments in the comprehensive competitiveness category in the ‘2021 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index Evaluation’ hosted by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute, demonstrating remarkable upward trends in various evaluations and proving the excellence of its administrative capabilities.
