Hwasun-gun Expands Coverage of 'Citizen Life Safety Insurance'

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, has expanded the coverage of the ‘Gunmin Life Safety Insurance’ enrolled this year.

According to the county on the 3rd, Gunmin Life Safety Insurance is an insurance policy for which the county pays the premiums collectively to compensate residents for damages caused by various unexpected disasters and safety accidents during daily life.

The coverage period for the Gunmin Life Safety Insurance enrolled this year is from February 1 of this year to January 31 of next year.

All residents registered in the county (including registered foreigners) are eligible for support and can receive insurance benefits without a separate enrollment procedure, with automatic enrollment and withdrawal based on moving-in and moving-out reports.

The coverage includes 15 types in total: death from natural disasters, death from injury caused by explosion, fire, or collapse accidents, permanent disability from injury caused by explosion, fire, or collapse accidents, death from injury while using public transportation, permanent disability from injury while using public transportation, and death from infectious diseases (COVID-19, Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome).

Death from infectious diseases was newly added this year to cover damages to residents caused by COVID-19, with coverage up to 10 million KRW for death from infectious diseases.

The coverage amount is 20 million KRW each for death and permanent disability, but according to Article 732 of the Commercial Act, death coverage is not provided for those under 15 years old, persons with mental incapacity, or persons with mental weakness.

In case of an insurance claim event, the claimant must submit the insurance claim form, a copy of ID, a copy of bankbook, and supporting documents verifying the accident details to the insurer, Korea Local Finance Guarantee Corporation, within 3 years from the date of the accident.

A county official said, “We hope that the Gunmin Life Safety Insurance will be a small but meaningful support system for residents who suffer various damages.”
