Perfect Operation of Mapo-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters During Lunar New Year Holiday, Snow Removal Completed
287 Tons of Deicing Agent Used, Snow Removal Work Continues in Vulnerable Areas for Resident Safety
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) announced that it has completed snow removal work on vulnerable sections such as side roads and sidewalks to prevent inconvenience to residents caused by the snow that fell during the Lunar New Year holiday.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, a heavy snow warning of 2 to 7 cm was issued from 9 PM on January 31 to February 1, predicting travel difficulties from the start of the Lunar New Year holiday.
Mapo-gu promptly issued a Level 1 snow removal duty starting at 5 PM on January 31. By 7 PM, 26 pieces of equipment (including 2 Unimogs, 5 fifteen-ton dump trucks, and 16 spreaders) were equipped with shovel blades and loaded with snow removal agents, then deployed forward to each work section.
As snowflakes began to fall, from 8 PM on January 31, 76 tons of snow removal agents were spread on main roads and vulnerable sections, completing the first round by 11 PM. The second spreading operation continued from 2:50 AM to 6 AM, using 134 tons of snow removal agents.
Despite the heavy snowfall throughout the night, the district’s 24-hour snow removal measures ensured that there was almost no accumulated snow on main roads, side roads, and sidewalks, causing little inconvenience to vehicle movement or pedestrians.
Meanwhile, in November last year, the district established the '21/22 Snow Removal Plan' to prepare for winter cold waves and heavy snow, securing ▲1,403 snow removal personnel ▲1,410 tons of snow removal agents ▲30 snow removal vehicles ▲48 snow removal equipment including spreaders and shovel blades.
In particular, 23 automatic brine spraying devices were installed in five vulnerable areas such as steep slopes and habitual icy zones, and road heating cables were installed and operated at three locations in Nogosan-dong 117-31 area to thoroughly prevent slip accidents on snowy roads.
Additionally, six types of optimal equipment including snow removal blowers, small spreaders, and automatic spreaders were provided to snow removal officers at community service centers, ensuring staff safety and improving work efficiency. Furthermore, 852 snow removal boxes were installed at vulnerable points such as hill roads and highlands in each community center, stocked with calcium chloride, salt, sand, and shovels for residents to use anytime.
