Ministry of Foreign Affairs Urgently Dispatches Staff to Ukraine Amid Possibility of Russian Invasion
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 29th that it has decided to urgently dispatch three staff members to the Embassy of Ukraine, where the possibility of a Russian invasion has increased.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a video conference on the previous day chaired by Minister Chung Eui-yong with Ukraine and seven neighboring countries, and decided to urgently send three staff members from the headquarters and nearby missions to the on-site command center at the Embassy of Ukraine to strengthen preparedness for the safety of overseas nationals.
The Ministry also designated assembly points in major areas such as the capital Kyiv, western Lviv, and southern Odesa in case of emergencies, stocked emergency food and relief supplies, and decided to take follow-up measures such as providing satellite phones that can be used if communication networks are cut off.
They also plan to activate a cooperative system for emergency evacuation of neighboring countries and their nationals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged local Korean residents, saying, “Since about 890 international flights operate weekly at seven airports in six cities including Kyiv, please use flights and other means to depart to safe areas as soon as possible.”
The Embassy of Ukraine will post information on transportation options to safe areas and the status of exit checkpoints available for land travel on the embassy website, and will hold safety briefings for Korean residents and businesses as needed.
