36 Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed Among Inmates at Seoul Dongbu Detention Center... Total Now 43
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases among inmates at Seoul Dongbu Detention Center has increased to 43.
According to correctional authorities on the 29th, 36 additional confirmed cases were identified at Dongbu Detention Center on the same day. All are inmates, and no staff members have tested positive.
The detention center explained that all new inmates tested negative upon admission.
Previously, at Dongbu Detention Center, 2 inmates tested positive on the 25th, 1 on the 26th, and 4 on the 28th, prompting a full screening of inmates and staff.
The confirmed inmates were immediately placed in cohort isolation, and close contacts were dispersed into single rooms in a separate housing unit.

The Ministry of Justice stated, "Upon notification of the cluster infection, an on-site response team was established at Dongbu Detention Center," adding, "From today, contact tracing tests will be conducted, and on the 31st, a second full screening of staff and inmates is planned."
