Incheon Airport Begins 24-Hour Nonstop Operation System for Lunar New Year Holiday
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 28th that it will implement special transportation measures for six days from the 28th of this month to the 2nd of next month, during the Lunar New Year holiday period, to maintain the supply chain of international cargo transportation and ensure the safe use of the airport by the public during the holiday.
During this special transportation measure period, Incheon Airport is expected to handle an average of 114 passenger flights, 237 cargo flights, and 10,000 passengers daily. This represents an increase of 17.7% in passenger flights, 18.9% in cargo flights, and 94.6% in passenger numbers compared to last year's Lunar New Year holiday.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Incheon Airport Corporation plans to establish thorough safety operation measures across international cargo uninterrupted operations, infectious disease response, and passenger convenience enhancement to ensure 24-hour international cargo transportation and safe, convenient airport operations.
First, to ensure the smooth operation of the scheduled 237 cargo flights during the Lunar New Year holiday, the corporation will fully support securing a safe international cargo transportation supply chain through building a safety cooperation network, regular preventive activities (disinfection, campaigns, distribution of hygiene products), and more.
Additionally, for thorough infectious disease response, special entry procedures will be implemented, including operating dedicated quarantine gates for direct flights from high-risk countries and separating quarantine public transportation for overseas arrivals. Three COVID-19 testing centers will be operated. Non-face-to-face fever checks will be conducted at each departure stage, passenger movement routes will be separated, and security screening counters will be operated in a dispersed manner to strengthen the quarantine system for arrivals and departures.
To prevent transmission infections within the airport, thorough facility disinfection and social distancing will be carried out throughout all areas. A smart quarantine system is in operation using 5G wireless communication, including quarantine guidance robots and disinfection robots.
Furthermore, to enhance passenger convenience, On-Tact services such as voice recognition and video guidance signage are being strengthened. Measures for responding to stranded passengers in emergencies, 24-hour ambulance dispatch and emergency patient transport, and focused management of airport road traffic conditions will reinforce security. The deployment of guidance personnel in arrival and departure halls and flexible operation of security screening counters will minimize inconvenience for airport users.
