CU·GS25 Introduce 'Mobile Driver's License' Adult Verification Service

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been preparing a mobile driver's license enhanced with security by applying blockchain-based decentralized identity verification (DID) technology as part of the Digital New Deal project. The mobile driver's license is legally recognized as a driver's license under the Road Traffic Act and holds the same legal effect as a physical driver's license when identity verification is required.
Users can issue a mobile license through a smartphone application (app) and use it both online and offline. It can be used not only at convenience stores but also at various institutions requiring official identification, such as banks, airports, and public agencies.
When customers' QR codes are scanned at CU and GS25 POS systems, encrypted customer information is transmitted to the National Police Agency and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety servers, allowing real-time verification of adult status. The app confirms only the adult status without exposing personal information such as name or date of birth, ensuring safe use. The decentralized identity verification technology applied to the mobile driver's license does not manage personal information through a central authentication authority, making it free from hacking threats.
