The 1st inspection held that day was a domestic preliminary evaluation in preparation for the 2nd on-site inspection by the Sweden International Safe City Certification Center (ISCCC), conducted under the supervision of the Community Safety Promotion Research Institute at Ajou University, the International Safe City Support Center.
Through this inspection, the district was evaluated on seven criteria for international safe city certification, including ▲injury surveillance system ▲unintentional injury prevention (traffic safety, fall prevention) programs ▲intentional injury prevention (suicide prevention, violence prevention) programs ▲high-risk environment and target programs.
Mayor Roh Hyun-song said, “The pursuit of international safe city certification is not just about the certification itself, but a promise to enhance the safety of the residents through the process,” and urged, “Please prepare thoroughly for the 2nd inspection to ensure successful international safe city certification.”
Opinions proposed by children will become this year’s district policies.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Roh Hyun-song) announced that it will hold the ‘5th Children’s Participation Committee Policy Report Meeting’ online on the 27th.
The purpose is to listen to and actively reflect the opinions of children, who are the subjects of child policy establishment and decision-making.
This policy report meeting is an official occasion to propose policies prepared based on the discussions and investigations conducted directly by the 5th Children’s Participation Committee over the past year.
At the report meeting, children participating in three subcommittees?education, human rights, and culture?will directly propose various policies they have prepared so far.
First, the education subcommittee proposes the establishment of regular educational programs to improve the limitations of public education, requesting the opening of various lectures and programs in fields such as computer science, essay writing, foreign languages, and art, which can be conducted without being restricted by academic hours.
The human rights subcommittee proposes policies focusing on the need for child abuse prevention measures worsened during the COVID-19 situation, including strengthening child abuse prevention home visit services, conducting child abuse prevention and treatment counseling, promoting child abuse reporting rewards, and increasing reward amounts.
Next, the culture subcommittee plans to propose the production of a Gangseo-gu youth cultural map and the hosting of festivals linked with cultural facilities. Notably, some of the proposals made that day are expected to be implemented as actual policies. The report meeting will be attended online by children’s participation committee members as well as district policy officials, who will listen to the proposals and explain whether they will be reflected in policies.
The online policy report meeting will be held from 3 p.m. on the 27th, and any interested residents can watch it on the district’s official YouTube channel, ‘iGangseoTV.’
On the day of the policy report meeting, a commissioning ceremony will also be held for six new members of the 6th Children’s Participation Committee who will newly participate in activities this year.
The 6th Children’s Participation Committee will consist of a total of 19 members, including 13 existing 5th committee members and 6 new members, and will actively reflect children’s opinions in district policies by representing Gangseo-gu children through discussions and investigations to discover new policies throughout the year.
