Safe Environment and Education... Ulsan Office of Education Supports School Disinfection Volunteers for the New Semester
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will operate quarantine volunteers at all kindergartens and schools starting in March to protect students' health and support stable educational activities amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has secured a budget of 5.387 billion KRW from its own funds to support about 1,800 quarantine volunteers for the first semester at each school.
The project will be operated in the form of volunteers, supporting 2 to 6 volunteers per school depending on the number of students.
Schools with 500 or fewer students will receive 2 volunteers, those with more than 500 but fewer than 1,000 students will receive 4 volunteers, and schools with 1,000 or more students will receive 6 volunteers.
Elementary schools with attached kindergartens will receive one additional volunteer, and special schools will receive one additional volunteer if they have fewer than 200 students, or four additional volunteers if they have 200 or more students.
Additional quarantine volunteers will also be supported for health rooms and cafeterias according to the number of students.
Quarantine volunteers will assist with tasks such as temperature checks, visitor management support, classroom disinfection, guidance and instruction on preventive measures, disinfection support for student facilities such as cafeterias and health rooms, and enforcing social distancing and mask-wearing within schools.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has allowed sufficient preparation time at schools in anticipation of the new semester's in-person classes, enabling the open recruitment and appointment of quarantine volunteers.
Considering educational activities and event schedules for each kindergarten and school (institution), the period of volunteer activities and personnel deployment will be flexibly operated according to the situation.
The Gangnam and Gangbuk Education Support Office School Support Centers will actively assist schools wishing to participate by handling recruitment announcements and application submissions, reducing the hassle of individual announcements for each school and lessening the burden on applicants who would otherwise need to apply to multiple schools.
Since 2020, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has secured budgets for strengthening COVID-19 quarantine activities and deployed support personnel to protect student health and reduce school burdens amid the pandemic.
Superintendent Noh Ok-hee stated, “We will communicate closely with the field to ensure no negligence in school quarantine and devote all efforts to protecting students' right to learn.”
Applicants can submit their applications from February 3 to 9. After February 15, schools will conduct second interviews and appoint final candidates, followed by pre-education sessions.
Detailed information about the recruitment can be found on February 3 on the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education’s website personnel pool or the Gangnam and Gangbuk Education Support Office websites.
