[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it will invest a total project cost of 2.9 billion KRW, including 2 billion KRW in national funds, in forest disaster prevention projects to protect the lives and property of residents from landslides caused by heavy rains and typhoons.
This budget is 2.1 billion KRW more than last year's 800 million KRW.
The county has been making efforts to secure national funds from Jeollanam-do and central government agencies.
The detailed projects to be promoted this year include one forest watershed management project, five check dams, 2 km of stream conservation, and 1 hectare of mountain slope protection.
The county plans to complete detailed design and administrative procedures by next month and begin full-scale project implementation from early March.
It also explained that all construction will be completed by June, before the rainy season, to enhance the effectiveness of landslide prevention.
Kim Sun-ho, the governor of Gurye-gun, said, “We are continuously striving to expand landslide prevention projects centered on residential areas,” and added, “We will do our best in advance prevention to minimize landslide damage and ensure regional safety.”
Meanwhile, the county plans to seek early promotion measures such as weekly progress monitoring to ensure rapid project execution, and will continuously inspect and confirm to prevent poor construction and safety accidents at each site, striving to carry out a perfect landslide prevention project.
