US State Department "Evacuation of Embassy Staff Families in Ukraine...Security Situation Unpredictable" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The U.S. Department of State announced that it has ordered the evacuation of ambassador families and non-essential staff from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. This is analyzed to be due to heightened security concerns as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine escalates to a critical point.
On the 23rd (local time), the U.S. Department of State issued a statement along with a travel advisory for Ukraine, saying, "Starting this week, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, will order the evacuation of ambassador families and non-essential personnel," and added, "Due to Russia's ongoing military actions and threats near the Ukrainian border areas, the security situation in Ukraine is unpredictable, and U.S. citizens residing in Ukraine are strongly advised to leave immediately."
The U.S. political media Axios pointed out, "Russia has deployed more than 100,000 troops to the eastern border area of Ukraine and has newly stationed large-scale forces in Belarus, which borders northern Ukraine," adding, "With additional military support being provided to separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine, the military tension in Ukraine has increased."
