'Lift Backward Run Accident' at Pocheon Bearstown... Passengers Being Rescued (Update 2)
1 Child Injured... Passenger Stranded in Mid-Air
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A lift rollback accident occurred at Bearstown Ski Resort located in Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi Province.
According to the fire authorities, around 3 p.m. on the 22nd, a lift heading up toward the top of the slope suddenly moved in reverse, leaving about 100 passengers stranded in the air.
At the time of the accident, the lift rapidly moved in the opposite direction, causing passengers to panic, and one 7-year-old child was injured and transported to the hospital.
Passengers who reached the boarding and disembarking area jumped to the ground, and some got caught between the lifts.
The lift involved in the accident is currently stopped, and around 40 of the stranded passengers were rescued by about 5 p.m., while the remaining passengers are reported to be waiting for rescue.
The fire authorities stated, "We are focusing on rescuing the passengers, but since the ski resort area is at a high altitude, it is expected to take some time."
