SK Materials, First in Industrial Gas Industry to Receive Carbon Footprint Certification
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Materials announced on the 20th that it has become the first company in the industrial gas industry to simultaneously obtain both the 'Measurement' and 'Reduction' certifications for the carbon footprint of tungsten hexafluoride (WF6) it produces.
The carbon footprint certification is awarded to products whose carbon emissions generated throughout the entire process from production to disposal are calculated according to the carbon footprint calculation standards. It is a global certification administered by the UK non-profit organization Carbon Trust, with evaluation levels divided into three stages: 'Measurement,' 'Reduction,' and 'Carbon Neutral.'
SK Materials achieved the accomplishment of simultaneously obtaining the 'Measurement' certification, which is granted when calculating carbon emissions throughout the product lifecycle according to carbon footprint calculation standards, and the 'Reduction' certification, which is awarded when carbon emissions are reduced. In fact, SK Materials' tungsten hexafluoride was recognized for approximately a 5% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the previous year.
Through this, tungsten hexafluoride products produced by SK Materials will be introduced worldwide with the carbon footprint 'Measurement' and 'Reduction' certification marks.
