Park Geonseop, Vice Chairman of Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Passes Away
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Park Geon-seop, Vice Chairman of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) and CEO of Gyuri Cinema, passed away on the 18th due to illness. He was 74 years old.
He served as CEO of Cinephil and director of planning and production at Shin Cine. He planned and produced over 30 films including "Nambugun" (1990), "Berlin Report" (1991), "Eunma Does Not Come" (1991), "Cutting Sadness with a Knife in the Heart" (1992), "I Want to Go to That Island" (1993), "Eternal Empire" (1995), "Ginkgo Bed" (1996), "Petal" (1996), "Letter" (1997), "Promise" (1998), "Lie" (1999), "Trout" (1999), "My Sassy Girl" (2001), "The Choice" (2003), and "Eight Emotions" (2010). He led the era of Korean film producers in the 1980s and 1990s and was recognized as a filmmaker who combined theory and practice.
From 2005 to 2012, he served as professor and dean at the Im Kwon-taek College of Film and Performing Arts at Dongseo University, dedicating himself to nurturing future talents based on his experience planning and producing hit Korean films. Since 2018, he served as Vice Chairman of BIFAN and, as CEO of Gyuri Cinema, planned films such as "General Hong Gwi-ju".

The funeral is being held at Seoul Shilnakwon, Room 5. The funeral procession will begin at 7 a.m. on the 21st, and the burial site is Cheonga Park. He is survived by his wife Kim Myung-sik and children Park Jeong-min and Gyuri.
