[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A woman has attracted attention by claiming that the color of her breast milk changed from white to green after being infected with COVID-19.
On the 16th (local time), the British media outlet The Sun reported the story of Ashmari, whose breast milk turned light green after contracting COVID-19.
Last year, Ashmari, who was infected with COVID-19 along with her husband and 1-year-old daughter, was shocked when she tried to pump breast milk. The color of her breast milk had changed to light green.
Ashmari said, "I was shocked to see the color of my breast milk change, but I thought it was part of the process of producing nutrients for my daughter."
Later, Ashmari revealed on her SNS that she fed her child the discolored breast milk and also shared news of her full recovery from COVID-19. She said, "I think the change in breast milk color might be due to COVID-19 antibodies," adding, "Breast milk is truly amazing and magical. I am very grateful to be able to produce it."
Regarding this, an obstetrician speculated, "It seems that the color change in breast milk occurred as antibodies formed in the body after contracting COVID-19, helping to fight the virus."
He also explained, "It is common for the color of breast milk to change when a breastfeeding woman is sick, has a cold, or suffers from other viral illnesses."

However, some argue that there is no connection between COVID-19 infection and breast milk color. The Australian Breastfeeding Association pointed out, "Green or blue breast milk can occur after consuming large amounts of green or blue foods."
