This Year's Seol Charyesang Cost at Traditional Markets 245,000 Won... 1.6% Increase from Last Year
When Using Large Discount Stores, 352,630 Won Is Needed
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] It has been surveyed that the cost of setting up a Seol Charye table for a family of four this year will require 244,500 KRW when using traditional markets, which is a 1.6% increase compared to last year. If using large discount stores, 352,630 KRW will be needed, showing a 2.5% increase from the previous year.
On the 18th, Korea Price Information, a professional price survey organization, analyzed, "The price level is similar to last year but still high compared to the average year."
Fruit prices fell by about 12% on average in both traditional markets and large discount stores due to increased cultivation area and production volume. Nut prices generally rose as the production of dried persimmons decreased due to last year's cold damage and autumn monsoon, and jujube prices increased due to low stock caused by poor harvests. Chestnut prices fell as production increased.
For greens, prices rose for all items except spinach due to reduced labor caused by the COVID-19 situation. Seafood prices showed little fluctuation, but the price of frozen pollack, which saw a decrease in imports, rose slightly. Livestock products remained stable compared to last year but were still at higher price levels than average years.

Lee Dong-hoon, Senior Researcher at Korea Price Information, said, "Most Seol Charye table items do not experience short-term price fluctuations, but due to the continued cold wave, prices of fresh foods such as vegetables are high," adding, "To purchase good quality ingredients relatively cheaply, it is wise to buy next week when the government's Seol price stabilization measures increase supply and temperatures rise."
