'In Seclusion' Sim Sang-jung Visits Gwangju Accident Site... Resumes Schedule After Four Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Sim Sang-jung, the Justice Party presidential candidate who had suspended her election campaign schedule entirely, visited the site of the newly constructed residential-commercial complex apartment collapse in Seo-gu, Gwangju, on the 16th, four days after going into seclusion.
On that morning, Sim visited the site on a private schedule and comforted the families of the missing persons at a tent set up nearby. After meeting with the families, she told reporters, "I came down with a broken heart," and briefly added, "Since a tragedy occurred, I felt guilty staying away, so I came to see the faces of the families of the missing."
She did not answer reporters' questions such as "What did you say to the families?" or "What were your thoughts during your period of reflection?"
She also said, "I have nothing more to say now and will speak through a press conference later."
