[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The hostage situation at a Jewish synagogue in Collierville, Texas, USA, ended after about 12 hours.
On the 15th (local time), according to the Associated Press and others, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that all four hostages, including the rabbi, were safely released.
The Collierville Police Chief also stated, "The FBI hostage rescue team entered the synagogue to free the remaining hostages," adding, "During this process, one suspect was killed."
Earlier that morning, an armed assailant broke into the synagogue and took four people, including the Jewish clergy rabbi, hostage, confronting the police. The police SWAT team responded to the first report around 10:41 a.m.
The hostage taker reportedly demanded the release of Pakistani scientist Aafia Siddiqui, who is linked to al-Qaeda.
Siddiqui is a female scientist known as the "Lady al-Qaeda." In 2008, she was captured in Afghanistan with sodium cyanide and papers detailing terror plans.
