Gyeongbuk Andong-si to Renovate 80 Abandoned Empty Houses in the New Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Andong City, Gyeongbuk Province, has decided to renovate vacant houses that have been left abandoned like ruins to welcome the new year.
On the 13th, Andong City announced that it will actively promote a vacant house maintenance project, recognizing that vacant houses left unattended due to aging populations and rural-to-urban migration in rural and urban areas are causing concerns about various crimes and fire outbreaks.
The 2022 vacant house maintenance project was able to secure a budget of 160 million KRW after an increase in subsidies through the amendment of related ordinances in 2021. The city plans to renovate more than 80 vacant houses throughout Andong.
The target houses for maintenance are those that have been abandoned for over a year and pose safety risks such as collapse or fire. Vacant houses that raise concerns about crime and those that spoil the aesthetics are also included.
