[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] It has been confirmed that the United States has requested additional sanctions from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in response to North Korea's successive missile launches.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, announced on the 12th (local time) that she requested additional sanctions from the UNSC regarding North Korea's recent missile launches.
In a post on her Twitter account that day, she said, "North Korea has launched six ballistic missiles since September 2021, each of which violates UNSC resolutions," and proposed corresponding UN sanctions. She added, "This is in addition to the designation made today by the State Department and the Treasury Department (targeting North Korea for sanctions)."
Earlier, the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced that it had sanctioned six North Korean nationals involved in North Korea's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile program development, one Russian individual, and one Russian entity.
