Ostem Implant Embezzler Unable to Attend Father's Funeral... Detention Suspension Denied
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The police have decided not to accept the detention suspension request of Lee Mo (45, detained), who embezzled 221.5 billion won of company funds from Osstem Implant. As a result, Lee, who is in custody, will not be able to attend his deceased father's funeral.
On the 12th, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul stated, "After a lengthy review, the detention suspension requested by Lee's lawyer has been denied." They added, "Considering the expected heavy sentence and the fact that the suspect was caught while on the run, among other factors, it was regrettably decided to deny the request."
Lee's father left a will and went missing the day before, and was eventually found deceased. The police believe there is a high possibility of suicide.
Currently, Lee is under investigation after being detained on charges of transferring 221.5 billion won in eight installments from the corporate account to his personal account since March of last year. Meanwhile, on the same day, the police secured 100 gold bars at the residence of Lee's younger sister, where the remaining gold bars that had been hidden and whose whereabouts were unknown were found, and conducted a search of the headquarters. With the seizure of these 100 new gold bars, the police have secured all 851 gold bars purchased with the embezzled funds.
