View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] LG Electronics announced on the 12th that it has supplied a plastic OLED (P-OLED) based infotainment system to Mercedes-Benz's new electric vehicle model.
LG Electronics and Mercedes-Benz have equipped the 2022 EQS model, a premium electric vehicle, with an infotainment system jointly developed by both companies.
The infotainment system supplied by LG Electronics integrates three screens: the instrument cluster, central information display (CID), and co-pilot display (CDD) into one unit. The driver and front passenger can use their respective screens independently.
Additionally, by using a flexible and bendable P-OLED display, the entire dashboard is realized as a curved panoramic screen. To achieve this, LG concentrated its differentiated technologies such as curved glass molding, surface treatment, and display bonding.
The strategy is to provide a customer experience on a different level through a touch-enabled intuitive interface, ultra-high-definition resolution, and thin bezels.
At the same time, the stability of the infotainment system has been enhanced. In the event of a frontal collision, the system minimizes head injuries to vehicle occupants caused by vehicle components such as the instrument cluster. The infotainment system also passed the 'frontal crash test,' which corresponds to 'occupant protection from internal impact' under the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
Previously, in 2020, LG Electronics was recognized for its outstanding performance and partnership by Daimler Group, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz AG, and was selected as the best partner.
The VS Business Division, leading LG Electronics' automotive components business considered a new growth engine, is focusing on developing infotainment systems, connectivity (vehicle connection technology), and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) solutions that can provide differentiated in-vehicle experiences to customers.
