Steel Association Holds the 16th Steel University Challenge Awards Ceremony
Pukyong National University’s Lim Jong-deok Wins Grand Prize... Competing in April World Championship
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea Iron & Steel Association's Steel Industry Human Resources Development Council (Steel SC) held the 2021 Steel University Korea Challenge competition student division awards ceremony on the 11th at Pukyong National University Daeyeon Campus.
The Steel Challenge competition is an online simulated operation contest using steel manufacturing process simulation modules owned by Steel University, an educational institution under the World Steel Association (WSA). This year's competition events were the secondary refining process and electric furnace simulation, conducted online.
The grand prize was awarded to Lim Jong-deok from Pukyong National University, who received the Korea Iron & Steel Association Chairman's Award and a prize of 2 million won. Winners from each region are granted qualification to participate in the World Championship, and Lim Jong-deok, having won the East Asia region, will compete in the April 2022 World Championship with winners from five regions: East Asia, West Asia, North Asia, Europe & Africa, and the Americas.
The gold prize winners were two students from Dong-A University, Sagong Seunghak and Hwang Siyul, each receiving the Korea Iron & Steel Association Chairman's Award and a prize of 1 million won. The silver prize winners were three students from Dong-A University, Kim Jongdu, Park Jungwoo, and Choi Jaesung, each receiving the Chairman's Award and a prize of 500,000 won. A total of 15 bronze prize winners were selected, each receiving a prize of 300,000 won.

Meanwhile, this competition, co-hosted with the World Steel Association, saw participation from 812 students from 90 universities worldwide, with a total of 262 students from 14 universities participating domestically.
